DT - My Roles
Last Monday on 31th October 2011 was the last class for design thinking before our mid-term examinations. We were given a chance to find and vote a topic for our project, which the due date is on 14th November 2011. Our project are divided by two, as individual and as a group. For the group assignment, we need to make a presentation, emphaty map, and also the video about the interview (research). For individual assignment, we have to make an essay which should be at least 1000 words. These are a part of emphaty process.
The project is about the crime in Jakarta. I was in the group two and we disccussed about this topic which is focused on safe life and security in Jakarta. In this Mid-term project, we worked together as a group to interview some people around in the break time before the next class. We interviewed people in turn. I took a role to interview some people and hold the video-camera.
First of all, before interviewing some people, we have to make a list of questions for them. These are some example of the questions; like their opinions about living in Jakarta, their discomfort when walking alone, what they choose as the safest public transporation, and how to handle their discomfort and also prevent the crime happen. Because we made it in the break time, we couldn’t go far away from Binus International, then our targets were Binusian and the security in JWC building. Even though our targets only Binusian, but their opinions were so varies.
Actually, we made this project was not so formal, because we think that’s going to be so boring. It was very fun when we made the opening, closing and also interviewing. We were looking at the people around that have time for interview. But in that time not many people in Binus, they were still in the class, so we searched for people in every floor. Finally, we’d got some nice people which were willing to be interviewed. In total, we’d 10 people. We were looking for the right spot for the interview place so the interviewer and interviewee sat together then the interviewer asked some question to interviewee.
I had my turn to interview someone, first, I was a little bit nervous even though it was not my first time to interview people. I thought I’ve got nervous because this is the project for mid term. We have to support each other, so that we could make it done only in a few hours. For that day, we forgot to make the opening and the closing for the video, if you watch properly, so you will see that we wore the different suits.
There were still some difficulties for me like to concentrate, to focus, to control my attitude in front of video camera, and some else. As a interviewer, I should be able to control myself when I asked something to the interviewee even though they answered it not seriously or they were joking around. Interviewing someone need a good communication skills. In this project, I learnt about how to speak more clearly so the video’s sound can be heard. Another difficulties, when the interviewee only answered the question two or three words, so I need to think to make them speak more. Concentrating in interview someone is really important. Because when I asked something then the interviewee answered too long and that’s already answer the other questions then I don’t need to ask that questions anymore.
Another difficulties, when holding the video-camera to record the interview was not an easy job to do. I needed to stable my hand to get a good chapture. To handle this problem, we held the video - camera alternately. But for some case in the most interesting part when my friend was holding the video - camera for candid, he made the camera unstable properly to get a good shoot. In that day, I also help my friends from different class to record the interview. I forgot to push the button to record, then luckily my friend didn’t get mad because of me. So, they need to retake the interview, I feel sorry for that.
Next, we only took a few hours to finish the interview session, then after that we have to mix and edit the video. One of my friend is really skillful in editing video. Combining the video was quite need a lot of time , also choosing the right parts, songs and effects need a lot of creativity. Carefulness was really needed when cutting the video. If the cuts of the video don’t match with the parts after and before, the result will not be perfect as now. He also added the subtitle to make it more understandable.
Through this project, I learnt a lot about being confidence in front of video-camera. Being friendly to new people, so I could interact with them comfortly. Doing group assignment together was better than doing the assignment seperately. My friend also taught me how to pick song for video, and edit the video. I was really excited to do this project, we learnt, we made, we coorporated together.
There are some result that I’ve got from the interviewee, like we have to aware in every situation an avoid eye contact with strangers, never showing our valuable off in the street, keep the bag close and never leave the precious thing alone. Almost all of the interviewee told that living in Jakarta is not safe anymore. The security guard also think that the security in Jakarta is so bad.
If I were the decision maker and I were be able to make a change in Jakarta, I would tighten the security system in Jakarta. Make it safer than before, then also eradicate all the corruptors. The corruptors took money from our taxation, it’s mean that they took money which should have used for improvement in this country. I would ensure all the policemen always alert about all the things happen in this county, they should not be lazy. If they need tools that are supporting them to their job, the country could facilitate them. The public transportation also need to be repaired or even renew to give extra comfortable feeling. All the rules and regulations in this country should be reinforced and implemented for every people. To become like what I wrote above, it will take time to make all the progress work out, and also a good leader is required. It is still possible to make our country become better.

SPECTRUM dalam pengertian disini seperti spectrum cahaya yang bisa diuraikan menjadi pelangi. Di dunia ini setiap negara mempunyai kebudayaan mereka masing-masing (warna-warna pelangi berbeda-beda) tapi bila kita bisa menjadikan setiap negara mempunyai satu tujuan (misi) untuk bersatu maka kebudayaan yang berbeda-berbeda itu akan saling melengkapi dan menjadi lebih indah (warna-warna pelangi yang tadinya berbeda-beda begitu digabungkan akan membentuk kesatuan yang begitu indah).
